The most important international sporting event hosted by Romania these days is the European Junior Water Polo Championship, which is taking place in Oradea (northwest). The competition takes place every two years. The previous edition, held in Manisa, Turkey, in 2023, was the last one in which the competition was designed for athletes under 17 years of age. As of this year, athletes under 18 may take part. Over time, Serbia has won the largest number of champion titles (7), followed by Hungary (6 titles, but a total of 15 medals, as against 14 for Serbia). In the current edition, Romania is part of Group C, alongside Turkey, France and Poland.

In Samokov, Bulgaria, the U20 World Wrestling Championships began, with over 650 wrestlers from all over the world taking part. The competition kicked off on Sunday, with the men’s freestyle wrestling event. The girls’ matches also began on Monday, while Greco-Roman wrestling matches will start on Thursday. In freestyle wrestling, Benjamin Bojthe, Eduard Lenard and David Tartan are representing Romania. In the women’s category, Ana Maria Rotaru, Alexandra Voiculescu and Maria Panţîru are competing, while Răducu Bedriaga, Dragoş Draga, Ionuţ Mereuţă, Pavel Alexe and Gabriel Stan are the Romanian athletes in the Greco-Roman category.
