Consecration of the painting of the National Cathedral

The painting of the largest Orthodox church in the world, the National Cathedral, was consecrated today in Bucharest, in the presence of the head of state and other officials and guests from Romania and abroad.

The painting of the National Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of the Salvation of the Nation, was consecrated today in Bucharest. The service was officiated by the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I, and Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church, together with a congregation of 65 hierarchs, 70 priests, and 12 deacons.

The ceremony was attended by President Nicușor Dan, along with his family, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, the Presidents of the Senate and Chamber of Deputies, Mircea Abrudean and Sorin Grindeanu, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, along with members of the Government, and the former heads of state Emil Constantinescu and Traian Băsescu. Other guests included the Custodian of the Romanian Crown, Her Majesty Margareta, accompanied by His Highness Radu of Romania, the President of the Romanian Academy, Ioan-Aurel Pop, the Apostolic Nuncio to Romania and the Republic of Moldova, Giampiero Gloder, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Bucharest, Monsignor Aurel Percă, along with numerous dignitaries and officials, as well as guests from abroad.

Thousands of people also came to attend the consecration service, but they will only have access to the courtyard and the interior of the cathedral after 8 p.m., as well as on the following days, until October 31. Those present were able to watch the consecration service on screens set up outside the cathedral.
